What is Australia Day

January 26 1788 saw the arrival of the First Fleet of 11 convict ships from Britain in Australia

This annual holiday commemorates commander Captain Arthur Phillip's raising of the Union Jack at Sydney cove. Today it mostly represents a chance for Australians to celebrate what is great about being Australian usually involving fireworks and parties
